A burial or cremation must take place not earlier than 36 hours and not later than 6 working days after death. For an exception (e.g. Islamic burial within 36 hours), you need permission from the public prosecutor and the mayor. Ashes must be held for 1 month by the crematorium before release.
📋 Death Declaration in Rotterdam
The death must be registered at the municipality of Rotterdam. This is often handled by the funeral director. The municipality will issue a death certificate (overlijdensakte) and permission for the funeral.
